I would post the repertoire from the Wind Symphony concert, but even I'M not really interested in knowing. I only joined WS because we're doing another recording. Two years or so ago, we made a recording of Holsinger pieces:

I like that sort of thing, the recording process, I mean. I'm not really too psyched about band music, but you know.

I'm posting this the week after the concert because I didn't think I'd keep doing this anymore, but. Here it is again.

I think of the first concert of the season the same way many people think about how you spend your New Years. It'll essentially determine how the rest of the season will turn out. 

My prediction after this week: "Is she in 2, or 3? 4?"

I have this week off, aside from my University ensembles and lessons. I think I'll be putting on my Senior Recital this semester. Most grad program applications are due by December 1st. This means I'll have to put the recital on probably the first week of November if I'm gonna include a CD in my applications. This means I should really be practicing...

This week has been soap opera-esque in that there was an article in our local newspaper this weekend that stated that our conductor would not be returning as music director/conductor next season and that a conductor search would ensue in the upcoming seasons. Today, the orchestra was addressed and was asked to vote as to whether we thought that negotiations between our conductor's management and the orchestra's management should continue. The saga continues...

Scenery

I was awoken on Wednesday morning by the contractor for the LCSO, reminding me to pick up my music from Capshaw/Olivas music store for this weekend's pop gig. Only problem is, I had no idea that I was scheduled to be playing this gig until I received this phone call.

New York City Ballet and NY Met's Marji Danilow is in El Paso this week for some chamber performances, and I had agreed to lend her my bass during her time in El Paso. Her last performance is on Sunday at 2 p.m., and I have Las Cruces gigs this weekend. Thus, I am using the school's Pollman bass for these performances, and Marji is using my bass. Strangely enough, my bass sounds much better than the Pollman bass.

The LCSO Pops gig is a Motown review, with singing act The Contours. This is all a lot of fun for me, because I really enjoy all of the Motown/Phil Spector/60's pop music. The Contours bring their own band, including an electric bass player. This makes me (and I'm sure the rest of my section) feel like we're there solely as scenery.

I have next week off entirely, aside from starting school again. In addition to my music courses, I'm taking English and Philosophy, two classes I should have taken a couple of years ago and have been putting off. I'll post my school schedule tomorrow afternoon.
